Get Involved
If reading about our food choices has your interest piqued and you think you'd like to get involved, there are many ways you can contribute to raising awareness of the effects of our food choices. As a non-profit organization, Earthsave is run almost completely by volunteer effort. Earthsave Canada does have an office space with one part time Office Manager. However, we have a volunteer Board of Directors and many, many others who contribute to our efforts in the community.
First and foremost, you can join Earthsave. Membership has its rewards for you, and your dues help us do our work. Perhaps you've got specific skills or some spare time you could contribute, but you just don't know what you'd like to do. Come to one of our potlucks or dine-outs and see if you'd like to help organize one, yourself. We also have several public events and functions which require volunteers to run smoothly.
If research, writing and communication is where your talents lie, we always need people to research food topics and prepare submissions for our newsletter. Perhaps you'd like to help out with letter writing campaigns or membership drives.
Take a look at our list of volunteer roles and see a role that might fit you please get in touch!
Ready to Dig In?
If you really feel like digging in and getting involved, you might consider putting yourself forward as a candidate for our Board of Directors. Our Board is made up of individuals who bring a variety of skills to the table (such as information technology, writing, accounting, organizing, event management and advertising) who all feel strongly about the food choices we make. No prior Board experience is required, but an ability to work amicably with a team is essential. Terms are for a single year, with some of the vacancies up for renewal at each Annual General Meeting around May. Click here to view a list or contact any of the members of the Board of Directors.
Frequently Asked Questions
I'm not even a vegetarian. Is this a problem? Be honest!Nope. Even some of our Board of Directors, the people who direct the organization, aren't vegetarian. Just don't bring beef jerky to volunteer meetings, okay?
Everyone seems to be friends at Earthsave. I don't know a single person...
Almost none of the Board and next to none of the volunteers knew each other before they got involved with Earthsave. Friendships are just a nice side benefit of helping out a good cause, they are not a prerequisite to getting involved.
I believe in what you do, but I have limited free time. I cannot commit to a long term position and, frankly, I'm not that keen on drop-in duties like stuffing envelopes. Is there something I can do?
Some of our volunteer positions are short-term projects. See our list of volunteer roles.
Do you have to be over 18? Can I get involved if I am still in high school?
Absofreakinlutely! Check out our Earthsave youth group!
