We’ve been up to a lot!

We’ve been up to a lot!

We’ve been up to a lot!

A Message from the President

We’ve had an excellent and fulfilling 2019 so far, thanks to our dedicated board, trusty volunteers, and generous donors.

Since the beginning of 2019, we’ve welcomed two new members to our board: Jennifer Flood as treasurer and Tannis Larsen as a member at large, who both bring valuable expertise and passion to the team.

We’ve participated in the Wellness Show and Veg Expo, along with many other inspiring businesses and organizations, where we had the opportunity to interact with our community of supporters, meet some new ones, and discuss the many benefits of a plant-based lifestyle for our individual and collective wellbeing. We’ve also participated in Veg Week and the Vancouver Vegan Resource Center, celebrated Earth Day at the Youth for Climate Justice Now parade, and sponsored the Vegan Film Festival, where many current and aspiring vegans gathered at the York Theatre to watch inspiring films about veganism while enjoying delicious vegan food. We also saw many of you at the first Vancouver Vegan Festival this summer. We sponsored this event to create an opportunity to celebrate veganism while spreading its important message, and were delighted by the many local vegan businesses, community members, and new faces that attended.

We’ve continued to spread our message through community and school talks, including at the Unitarian Church of Vancouver, St. George’s Senior School Human Library, the UBC Sustainability Fair, and the Vancouver School Board Sustainability Conference.

Thank you to our donors, who by empowering us, allow us to continue to build and strengthen this community. We have a lot to look forward to in the coming months and can’t wait to keep sharing it with you!

Recipes we’ve been loving:

Creamy and delicious squash soup. A warm and comforting option as we transition into the fall season.

Pumpkin pie smoothie to get into the fall spirit. Perfect way to start your day or for a sweet treat after dinner!

And … Check out Meatless Meetup for upcoming vegan meet-ups in your neighbourhood.

Even as 2023 saw record-breaking global temperatures, global efforts to tackle the climate crisis have largely failed to acknowledge the need to transition our food system to more sustainable, compassionate and healthy plant based diets. However, there has been some positive progress. This blog recaps some of the year’s significant events, with links to many of our blog posts from 2023.

Top ten recipes I made this holiday season

Jan 21, 2021

This holiday season was unusual for all of us. For me, one perk of a quiet holiday was extra time to experiment with new recipes. Cooking and baking, even with no dinner parties to attend, helped me to embrace the calm and coziness of the season and bring some warmth and joy into my home.
