Volunteer Roles at Earthsave

This is a list of volunteer roles that are sometimes needed at Earthsave. To find out which which roles we are currently trying to fill, please see our volunteer application form.

Vegetarian Directory Distributor: The Vegetarian Directory is a great resource for finding vegetarian and vegan restaurants and businesses throughout the Lower Mainland, and online. Help us to distribute the directory to our partner businesses and various other locations. It is up to you how often you deliver, and you can walk, bike, ride the bus or drive - either way we'd love your help!

Office Assistant: Build your experience with office administration tasks and support Earthsave. This role requires your presence in person at the Earthsave office 2150 Maple St.

Membership Director: Earthsave relies on membership money to fund our programs and staff. As Membership Director, your focus would be on growing the membership. This is a Board position, requiring approximately 8 hours per month, including once monthly Board meetings.

Drivers: Many of our members are car-free, which means we often have a hard time finding people to drive bins for info booths or potlucks to our events. Offering to drive does not mean you have to do all the loading and unloading yourself. We usually have volunteers willing to help with that, but they don't have cars. So, if you have some free time and a car, please contact us!

Dine-Out Coordinators: Twice a month, Earthsave hosts a dine-out at a restaurant in Metro Vancouver. Dine-out coordinators are responsible for finding interesting restaurants to explore, approaching those restaurants and arranging the menu in consultation with the restaurant. Money is collected in advance online by credit card. We are currently seeking Dine-out Coordinators for the North Shore. Successful candidates will have attended a dine-out to see how they are run.

Website Translators: Translators are required for the website in common languages other than Chinese: Vietnamese, Korean, Punjabi, Arabic, Russian and French in particular. Must be completely fluent in English as well.

Venues Researchers: This is a project for two plus volunteers, surfing together: phoning, checking, consulting, possibly going and checking out venues for information booths, potlucks and dine outs. The information you collect should have locations, phone numbers, contact person info, and venue details. This is a job can be done at your own pace.

Vegan Products Researchers: This position is so important because it assists other people move towards a plant based diet! This is an easy and on-going volunteer campaign to find out more about the resources available for vegan products in the Lower Mainland and online. The info will be posted on Earthsave's website for vegans, vegetarians and others to access and use. Volunteers conduct research and create a resource list of vegan-friendly items such as shoes, beer, sexual health products and health care products and where they can be purchased. This position can definitely be done at your own leisure!

Information Booth Events Staff: : Are you knowledgeable about the environmental, ethical and health consequences of food choices? Do you have a solid understanding of vegan nutrition? Would you like to learn more? Are you friendly and good with the public? Able to handle disagreement and tolerate different views? We attend a variety of events throughout the year including health shows, food fairs, farmers markets, concerts. These events provide us with amazing opportunities to outreach and spread the Earthsave message. We provide training for people who are interested but want to learn more.

Information Booth Coordinators: These committee positions involve deciding which events to have information booths at throughout the year. Although some resourcefulness at finding great opportunities is appreciated, for those new to this type of volunteering, most of the events are already known at the beginning of the year. The Coordinators decide together which information and merchandise to take to events and coordinate and make a schedule for information booth staff and bin drivers. They also liase with the organizers of the events.

Chinese Group Coordinator: Earthsave would like to plan targeted outreach to the Chinese community of the Lower Mainland. As the coordinator, you would be the central contact for this group, who would undertake the planning of this outreach together.

Media Assistant: Would you like to help create a buzz for Earthsave? You would do media research for vegetarian related articles, draft press releases and post on community and editorial calendars. We especially need volunteers to help us track and respond to articles in our local and national newspapers that are related to Earthsave's issues! Experience is helpful but not necessary.

Home-Based Internet-Saavy Researchers: C'mon, we know you're out there! You are able navigate the web and find us various bits of information while helping us with publicity for our big event, Taste of Health, by posting community calendars. Leisurely and completely flexible!

Home-Based Volunteer: Is transportation in to the office a problem for you? We're looking for individuals with good communication skills to help out a few hours a month with our marketing for Taste of Health. You can do it from home. All you need is a computer, the internet, and a phone.

Newsletter Delivery Person: Involves delivering 480 newsletters (2 large boxes and one bag) to the Vancouver Public Library and the Post Office, which are located very close to each other. Car required.

Poster Person: Super flexible, in your neighbourhood only, at your convenience. Good way to get involved without a huge commitment.

Parents Group Coordinator: We've had numerous requests for a parents' group, but we have no coordinator. The ideal candidate would be someone with children willing to be a central contact to arrange meeting times and locations. No expertise is required.

Seniors' Group Coordinator: We've had many requests for a seniors' group and so are now looking for someone to be a central contact person for this group. No expertise is required. The aims of the group are both social in nature and involve some outreach.
