Earthsave Holiday Funding Drive 2009/2010

Dear Friends,

In many ways, this is an exceptional year. Like all other BC environmental charities this year, Earthsave Canada received a form letter telling us that we would not be receiving any provincial grant money this year. So, what will the loss of that money affect? To the extent that we can't replace it, our programs will suffer:

1) Earthsave Vegetarian Directory: far fewer copies will be distributed-a shame with the Olympics looming.

2) Our new cross-Canada Meatless Monday Campaign (http://www.meatlessmonday.ca and http://www.lundisansviande.ca -our Quebec presence): operating on a budget of almost zero now.

3) Taste of Health: we may not be able to run it in any form this coming year.

4) Online environmental food footprint calculator: currently on hold.

5) Newsletters: cut back from bi-monthly to quarterly.

6) Dine-outs and potlucks: print ads in local papers have been removed. No more venue rentals.

I think you will agree that this is a tremendous wealth of worthwhile initiatives for such a small volunteer run organization! Too bad we are not more effective in getting this important message out. Why is that? Because, unlike organizations like PETA, we are a volunteer run organization on a shoestring budget.

Animal agriculture contributes a minimum of 20 to 30% of human caused global warming gasses. The number of factory farmed animals worldwide is increasing by billions every year. And, as Jonathan Safran Foer says, 99% of the meat North Americans eat comes from factory farms.

Wow. Those are sad statistics, aren't they?

Considering the wide reaching consequences of simple lifestyle choices like diet, the message that Earthsave Canada distributes, to the best of our financial ability, is crucial at this time. Please give to the best of your ability to help get this message out. Remember that Earthsave Canada is a registered charity and all donations are tax deductible. Any money you donate will go directly to the great initiatives listed above.

Three ways to donate:

- The easiest way is to make a donation online: http://www.earthsave.ca/donate

- We can also take credit cards directly over the phone: 604-731-5885.

- And cheques can be mailed to our office at: 2150 Maple St. Vancouver, BC V6J 3T3

Sincerely,

David Steele
